Vikings discovered North America before the British colonies!
The voyage across was very long and hard treacherous journey so they obviously need a way to get there after all they done so they mapped out the area of the new word using the map and astrolabe.
Astrolabes where tools of navigation use to calculate what directions were using the stars.
Almost everyone who went to the new world had to travel past the pacific ocean since they did not think that the Earth was round and that they could go the other way not until the year 1520 AD. Continuing, the person who discovered this was Ferdinand Magellan when he finally finished an returned from his voyage only 18 of the 270 people were still alive.
When they arrived they also brought may diseases along with them so death spread among the indigenous people that were living there.
